Today's brides want to give as much thought to their wedding party ensemble as they do for their own. Choices in dress and jewelry help to set the tone and mood of the big day affair, and should be reflected in the party's ensemble. Jewelry, especially, plays a big role and while the bridesmaid's jewelry may not be as high profile as the bride's, it is an important element of the overall effect a bride is looking to achieve.
One of the key elements to creating a "look" for the ceremony and reception is determining a theme. A bride's choice of theme should be carried through the flowers, colors and clothing of the wedding party, as well as the decorations. But there are a few things to remember. For instance, a dazzling dress may require only a simple pair of diamond or CZ stud earrings. Bridesmaid's dresses without much adornment pair beautifully with a pair of chandelier earrings or a lovely choker jewelry necklace. Or, the bride might choose to highlight her wedding colors through a pair of colorful semi-precious stone earrings and a matching jewelry necklace. Just make sure jewelry is all in the same color, style and material. This creates the cohesive look a bride desires.
Some brides offer to let her bridesmaids choose their own jewelry, suggesting the color and style that will best complement their ensemble. This gives each woman some freedom in choosing jewelry she prefers without creating a distracting look. In fact, the overall effect is cohesive, while offering some visual interest for onlookers, as well as in photographs.
Note the Neckline
When it comes to choosing a jewelry necklace for her bridesmaids, a bride-to-be should first consider the neckline and style of the bridesmaid's dresses. Jewelry necklaces should follow the style of the dress neckline. For example, she should avoid choosing a pendant necklace that hangs where the neckline begins or pairing a choker-style necklace with a halter-style dress. Sweetheart necklines are complemented by almost any style of jewelry necklace, as long as it does not extend to touch the fabric of the dress. Necklaces do not pair well with a halter-style dress. Instead, a bride should choose a fabulous pair of earrings. Lariat or y-drop necklaces pair beautifully with v-neck dresses.
Earring Envy
Many of the same principles apply when choosing earrings as with necklaces. Again, consider the style of the dress as well as the neckline. Bare shoulders and an exposed neckline work well with dangly or drop earrings. For a truly glitzy look, choose a sparkly choker and matching earrings that will catch the light and guests' attention. Dresses with a higher neckline pair beautifully with a pair of diamond stud earrings.
Bridal Baubles
The first rule in wedding jewelry is not to overdo it. It's often tempting to go all out with dress styles and jewelry, but that can make for a less-than-desirable outcome when all the elements come together. This is especially true for the bride. While it's fun to get lost in the tulle and satin, your wedding day is not the time to load up on bling. The wedding day is the time for a bride to shine, not be outdone by her jewelry choices. Jewelry should help bring out the beauty that is already there, not compete with it.
For a whimsical touch, a bride might play up a color from her bouquet in her jewelry. The sentimental bride might choose to wear the groom's or her own birthstone in her earrings and jewelry necklace. To achieve the timeless look, diamond earrings are always a sure-win choice as they frame any bride's face beautifully - especially in photographs. Pearls also offer a classic elegance that never goes out of style. For an unusual statement, choose matching Tahitian strand of pearls and earrings. Tear-shaped pearls are also lovely set as drop earrings or a pendant jewelry necklace.
